Great book. While I bought it to help me make those dreaded sales calls, I've found helpful info for improving my communications skills. Shawn's sense of humor and practical approach made it an easy read. Buy this book--you won't regret it!
This book is a must-have for any independent consultant (or really, anybody) who needs to do cold calling. Shawn gives scripts from a variety of industries, so it was really easy to follow along and just pick what I needed to say. She also helps reframe the dreaded cold call into a consultative conversation, which makes it much easier to dial the phone. It operationalizes the cold call, which makes it much more of a standard operating procedure.

I'd known about this book for a little while, but when I saw Shawn speak, I knew I had to have it, so I bought it that same day. I'm very glad I did.
I love this book. I keep going back to it to re-read Shawn Greene’s sage advice about how to make any phone call more effective and more enjoyable both for me and for the person I am calling. I don’t do a lot of genuinely cold calling, but these techniques work superbly for any kind of phone call. In fact, Greene makes the extremely useful point that there really isn’t a difference between a “cold” call and a “warm” call. That advice warmed up my cold feet about initial calls and follow-up calls. It’s also advice I share with my clients, so they can conduct better job searches with less angst.

Other things Greene has persuaded me about 1) Yes, really, use a script. Scripts can actually help you be more natural, more present, more respectful of prospects and clients. 2) Because I’m human, it helps a whole lot to set realistic goals and to reward myself for meeting them. 3) I can apply all her great advice in ways that fit my personality and style. Since authenticity is a high value for me, that’s been the key to upping my game using the tips and techniques in this excellent book.
I saw Shawn Greene speaking at an event before I got her book and after her presentation, I just knew I had to have it! Shawn is obviously an EXPERT at making cold calls and her writing makes it just as easy to understand as when she's teaching in person. What I love about Shawn's style is that she makes cold calling so simple and conversational. It doesn't have to be icky and scary like I always thought it was once you start using what she teaches.

Shawn helps you understand the "reason" for making a cold call in the first place which most people totally miss. Knowing this very important thing makes all the difference in whether you are successful or not with your calls.

Learning from Shawn and reading the book has helped me in my own business. I no longer dread making cold calls or any kind of calls for that matter. I now feel empowered with the understanding of what makes them work.

I HIGHLY recommend her book to anyone that wants to get better at making cold calls. Even if you don't dread them you will learn so much from her!

If you are in sales and have to use the phone, you don't have to but I highly recommend you get and read this book. This is written for the beginner, novice and seasoned sales person. I actually thought I had phone calling figured out and I did up to a point. New ideas and new insight is what I got. Keep in mind, there is a learning curve. Don't expect a magic wand where all of a sudden you are crushing your calling. For me, phone calling is THE core fundamental skill my job requires. I can never be too good on the phone and I can never know too much about calling. I highly recommend, I'd Rather Have A Root Canal Than Do Cold Calling!
